The summer transfer window often brings about feelings of excitement and optimism for the season ahead. For Arsenal fans it has been an uncomfortable ride amid ongoing speculation and continued unrest. The coming weeks will ultimately hinder their aspirations for the new season and fans can buy Arsenal tickets today as the Gunners prepare for the upcoming campaign at The Emirates.

Arsene Wenger controversially signed a new contract in May, but in doing so, proclaimed his intent and ambition to heavily invest in the squad, making the necessary improvements that were painfully clear after an underwhelming season saw his side drop out of the illustrious top four for the first time in his tenure.

The nervous trepidation was somewhat eased by the £52 million acquisition of Alexandre Lacazette which posted a signal of intent from the Gunners as they look to pose a substantial challenge to the Premier League’s elite. However, it is the future of the star players Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil which continues to dominate the back pages of newspapers around the world.

The ‘In Tray’ at Arsenal HQ has been littered with more potential outgoings than new arrivals. The urgent to-do list revolves around resolving the immediate futures of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. Keeping hold of their two main assets may just be the coup of the summer.

Despite the signing of a prolific goalscorer in the shape of Lacazette and an athletic left-back in Saed Kolasinac, it is the futures of Sanchez and Ozil which has made for restless nights for Arsenal fans. Supporters with Arsenal tickets last season would have been wowed by the quality of Sanchez and flair of Ozil, but as their contracts enter the final year their future appears to be well and truly up in the air as the new Premier League season approaches.

The future of Alexis Sanchez is no secret. Arsene Wenger has voiced his desire for the Chilian to stay, but reports of interest from Paris St-Germain and Manchester City makes for continued unrest in the Arsenal camp.

Sanchez has only one year remaining on his Arsenal contract and the 28-year-old is still refusing to renew terms as both the player and club look to resolve the issue in the coming weeks. Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have been interested in making a move but a move to the Etihad to reunite with former Barca manager Guardiola and Manchester City is just as appealing for a player who wants to play Champions League football and add more trophies to his collection.

Meanwhile, Mesut Ozil is another star player entering the final twelve months of his contract having has his future under speculation for almost a year as he continues to hold on for wages of £350,000 a week. However, with no top sides showing great interest in moving for the World Cup winner, committing to Arsenal seems his best bet with a contract of around £280,000 a week wages mooted from the Gunners hierarchy.

Ozil has voiced his desire to stay at Arsenal and will hold talks following their pre-season tour. Arsenal will look to pen a lucrative deal to maintain his services and block any move he could make in January to move abroad on a free transfer if he was to enter the final year of his current deal with no fresh terms agreed.

Fellow first team players Olivier Giroud, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Lucas Perez, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs all face uncertain futures in North London and the exit door beckons as a tumultuous summer appears to be far from over for Arsenal fans. There is sure to be a few new faces at The Emirates this season, but perhaps the biggest signing of the summer could be those who stay in North London as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his squad as opposed to replace it.
